What can we do if my dog gets H1N1 (Swine Flu)?

The outbreak of the H1N1 (swine flu) not only alarms people, but also remind us how the virus will affect our lovely dogs. The name of H1N1 is swine flu (influenza virus). It is a human-to-human disease at this time. This virus has genetic elements from the pig influenza virus. This disease in pigs has been confirmed in the current outbreak.

Up to date, there is no evidence of transmission of this virus from dogs to people. It is not a single reported case of human infection with influenza virus. However, human infections with new influenza viruses would be concerning if they occurred. The influenza viruses are changing all the time. It is possible for a virus to change so that it could infect humans and spread easily between humans and pets, especially dogs.

If your dog is getting influenza, you are better to contact your veterinarian directly for an examination and to discuss any questions. The virus’s impact on animals is unknown. It emphasizes that there is no impact on dogs to be appeared, leaving dogs at a low risk of catching the H1N1 flu.
